Let's Get to know Tanner!
Thanks for rolling with us Tanner! Tell us a little bit about yourself and where you're from.
I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, about 45 minutes south of Seattle. I spent a lot of time when I was young going down to San Diego, California to stay with my uncle who lived there. This is where I discovered my love for surfing, warm weather, and being by the ocean. Right after high school I moved down there and have since lived in California, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, and all over the west coast in my camper van!
Your Instagram is full of some spectacular shots! We know you also do more than just photography, can you tell us more?
Photography/Videography was the medium I chose to capture my passions and share stories I care about. I am greatly inspired by nature and try to spend as much time as possible out surfing, snowboarding, rock climbing, etc! I have so many interests it's kind of hard to choose sometimes, any opportunity to get out and learn something new I will probably be stoked on!
If you could change one thing about the world, what would that be?
There's so much going on globally currently I think we have all had to reflect on our own values quite a bit. I think one major thing that would be beneficial would be to start living our day to day lives with the bigger picture in mind. As hilarious as this might sound to some of you guys, I believe the root of all good feelings is love! I sometimes say to friends, the reason it's possible and common to find love in a relationship is because in our society it's acceptable to show love in that way. You can create that amount of love and good feelings towards anything; your friends, family, food, activities, and it will attract more positivity into your own life. The best we can do is try to evolve mentally, physically, spiritually and try to create a more sustainable future because our current path is not sustainable in my opinion.
You bought your first Penny board when you were 14 years old! What is it about Penny boards that have kept you riding all these years?
Penny is all about going out with your friends, enjoying skateboarding no matter your skill level or location and that is seriously what enjoying something is all about. I remember when I was young watching Penny’s Viva Vacation series on Youtube it made me so excited to bring my board with me everywhere, skating parking lots, at the beach, in the airport, anywhere! Now 10+ years later it seems I don’t feel any different. It gives me the same joy it did since day one.
What do you love most about your Penny boards? Where have you most loved cruising on them?
Boards that allow you to flow and carve the streets like you would a wave in the ocean, or a powder day in the mountains is an addiction for me. Penny was the first board I ever owned that gave me that feeling. My favorite place to cruise is either trying to find the most smooth concrete around or in a parking lot right after a surf, barefoot getting some last turns in before the sun goes down!
